It would be the one after lying low for a couple of months. Or the one after a serious injury that put you out for months. Or for many who have sat down and allowed procrastination to pile layer upon layer of blub on, the workout that will initiate change… powerful change. Ok, let’s not get too ahead of myself. Whatever the reason, it’s an important one (without comparing to your first date, first love… yada yada, well… you get the idea)
For me, it’s a choice that was rather inevitable, given that my schedule at work was interfering with my Muay Thai sessions too much. And the sessions were fixed, and usually last 2-2.5 hours, which left me too tired and without any time to wrap up other stuff afterwards. Grueling torturous sessions which wasn’t working out well for my frame as there was little weight lifting involved and a lot of endurance based training. I needed something more simple, lasting no more than 45 minutes and could show me results through an evenly paced workout.
So I returned to gym. (one of the California Fitness branches was just a mild 15-20 minutes away from my office) Stepping back in there after such a long absence felt weird and familiar both at the same time. But after it kicks off, there’s no turning back. It’s been 2 days now, (I went back last night for a short cardio on the treadmill) and my pecs and upper back are still searing with pain from the power training session I opted for. Drinking down soy milk for recovery as I type this, all I can say with absolute conviction is that it absolutely rocks.
It rocks to get that first step started. There’s no immediate visual results to those around you, but you know because you feel it. Have you gotten off to that first workout? Whatever your reasons, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t hit the weights, the treadmill, the road. Put on those trainers… and like what my protein bottle slogan says,”Shut up & train.”
